Wetsuits -your Essential Water Sport Equipment
Posted by Paul Garnett at May 30th, 2009 in Surfing
Wetsuits are one of the essentials of water sports. Especially during cold seasons, the enjoyment of the game relies mostly on how you are protected from the cold and how you are comfortable as well on your sports gear.
Wetsuits are designed to protect the body from the cold and it may come in different styles like the long john, which covers the body and legs but exposes the arms, or a shorty wetsuit which is short-sleeved and exposes the legs and down the knees. There are also wetsuit vests.
Some wetsuits may have special features in it or may have other innovations but whatever the design of the wetsuit, it is made primarily to give protection to the wearer especially in cold water temperatures that could be a risk to the body.
When the body is exposed to the cold, it may be affected by hypothermia, a condition where normal body functioning is drastically affected by the loss of body heat. The risk of hypothermia may be greater when you are submerged in water, thus body protection is very important.
This made wetsuits important in water sports and in any activities that may involve longer exposure to cold waters. Wetsuits also make surfing or triathlon possible even in the cold months. Even in temperate weather conditions, extended exposure to the water can also lead to loss of body heat and risk of hypothermia, thus wearing wetsuits are indeed necessary.
The invention of wetsuits is truly an important breakthrough in the world of water sports. It has made water sports enjoyable in most times of the year, as well as in places that may be too cold for the bare body.
Even in competitions, this piece of garment has also been seen to give other benefits like giving more buoyancy to the wearer, thus making one move faster in water. The making of the wetsuit has indeed made us enjoy life more by giving us protection while having fun.
