If you are an avid surfing fan or a triathlon athlete testing your skills in the water, you might have known how important it is to always be protected during cold temperatures.
Snorkeling or scuba diving in cold waters is not enjoyable with just your clothes on. Surfing on a cold day would not be possible even. Thanks to those who invented the wetsuit. They have definitely contributed a very important gear in water sports.
How do wetsuits exactly work for you? Here are some of its basic concepts.
Wetsuits are made of a synthetic material called Neoprene, a waterproof rubber that is flexible and buoyant as well. Neoprene has tiny air pockets in it that helps in maintaining your body heat while in the cold and especially if you are submerged in the water for long.
Whether you have a spring suit or a full body wetsuit or a shorty, the openings in the neck, arms and legs of the wetsuit will allow a little amount of water into the suit, and keeping them there until the body eventually warms it up. While you are enjoying your water sport or loving every minute of your snorkeling adventure, the water beneath your suit is shielding you from the cold, as it acts as the body’s insulator.
It is also important to choose a wetsuit that perfectly fits for you. A perfectly fit wetsuit means something that would hug every part of your body and at the same time comfortable for your breathing and moving. A major factor on how effective your wetsuit works is its fit. A baggy wetsuit would definitely mean poor insulation.
Not just only for your wetsuits, it is equally important that you know how your safety equipment and sports gear are working for you. With enough knowledge, you will feel safe and secured and will make you enjoy your game more.
